Our Commitment to Black Feminists:
The Black Feminist 100 Days + Beyond Pledge
As Black feminists, we know that presidents often lead with false or empty promises for Black women, girls, and gender-expansive people. We know that presidents and elected officials will not save us. We also know that this president is different. The promise to harm, hurt, and destroy our communities in the first 100 days has been made very clear.
This new administration will create chaos and uncertainty during the first 100 days.
At BFF, we refuse to be distracted. We are making our own commitments and affirming our certainties during the first 100 days instead.
The Black Feminist 100 Days + Beyond Pledge is a bold and necessary declaration of our commitment to building Black feminist power and emphasizes the importance of community, strategic analysis, and resistance in the face of political threat. Our commitments outlined in the pledge—Building community, developing analysis, protect, love and defend, and fighting back—offer an approach for collectively navigating the first 100 days of this administration.
We ask you to take the pledge, share with others, and be encouraged by what we will do together.
As a Black feminist, I pledge to:
Build beloved community: Whether in person or online, community is our biggest asset. We build community by showing up for each other. Attending book clubs, potlucks, tending a community garden, engaging in thoughtful online conversations, joining an organization and actively participating- these are just some of the ways to build community. Community is a space where people know you, count on you, trust you, and where you can practice your Black feminist values.
Over the next 100 days, BFF will host in-person and virtual community spaces to build a Black feminist community with each other. Will you join us?
Develop my analysis: As Black feminists, we must continue to learn, grow, and develop. As the political terrain becomes increasingly uncertain, and access to dis/misinformation becomes more widespread, it is necessary that we are able to use our analysis as a compass to make sense of it all. Developing a sharp, critical analysis allows Black feminists to better understand the political, social, and economic systems that perpetuate harm.
Over the next 100 days and beyond, you can count on BFF as a reliable source of vetted information and resources. We will also curate monthly political education on important topics to help sharpen and build our Black feminist analysis. Join us!
Protect, Love + Defend: From public assaults on all of our communities, in particular Black trans people and immigrants, we must stand firm in our commitment to protect, love, and defend each other. That could mean deescalating tense situations, walking people home safely, doing community watch.
Over the next 100 days and beyond, BFF will be rolling out our Protect, Love + Defend trainings to make sure Black trans people and other marginalized communities are safe. Sign up to get trained!
Fight back: Many will say that the resistance is over. That is because they are not looking at what Black feminists are doing! Our North Stars remind us of the legacy of resistance work and that we struggle onward because our lives and liberation depend on it. As Black feminists, it is understandable that so many Black women and gender-expansive people feel disappointed and tired following the election. Yes, the 92% delivered with the hope of shaping a different way forward, and we can not allow others or our opposition to move forward with destruction and violence. We will identify opportunities to advance our work while doing our best to block the harm to come.
Over the next 100 days, BFF will power up our campaigns so we can fight back together!
I, the undersigned, will uphold The Black Feminist 100 Days pledge as my commitment to building Black feminist power.
P.S. We will check in with you over the 100 days to see how you are holding up with the pledge! You can do it!
